🐾 Celebrating Black Cat Day: Meet Our Resident Shop Cat, Chuckie

Every October 27th, National Black Cat Day reminds us to appreciate these beautiful, often misunderstood animals and the joy they bring into our lives. For us, it’s also a chance to celebrate one very special member of the Window Magic Supply family, our shop cat, Chuckie.

If you’ve ever visited our store, chances are you’ve met Chuckie. Whether he’s napping in the stockroom or greeting customers at the counter, Chuckie is a fixture of the store. In honor of National Black Cat Day, Randi (Owner of Window Magic Supply) and employee, Jose, answered some questions about how Chuckie became part of the team, what life is like with a cat in the shop, and the joy he brings to our customers and employees every single day.

Q: First of all, how long has Chuckie been a part of the Window Magic family?

Randi: Chuckie has been with us since 2013

Q: How did Chuckie come to live at the store?

Randi: He was found under a shed with three other kittens, as their mom was eaten by a coyote. My sister in law brought them into our screen shop, knowing I do rescue. We found homes for the other kitties who were grey, but Chuckie is black and no one wanted a black kittie, so we decided to keep him as we had another shop kitty as well.

Q: How would you describe Chuckie’s personality?

Randi: Chuckie was named Chuckie, because he was such a terror as a kitten. He got into everything, and knocked everything down from the screen table and our desks and was always into mischief. When Chuckie turned two he started to mellow out, and is just the best kitty. He loves people so much. He has more of a dog personality, than a cat. He will fetch, he comes when you call him and is always greedy for attention.

Jose: Chuckie is beyond friendly. Many say a cat is always up to smelling a finger; But Chuckie bypasses all formalities and offers his entire head for scratches and pets. Chuckie knows no strangers.

Q: How is he with customers?

Randi: He is our greeter. As soon as Chuckie hears a customer in the store, he runs out there and sits on the counter demanding attention. When we had the screen shop we had customers that would come by just to visit Chuckie. They would come in and have toys and treats for him.

Jose: All customers are an opportunity for socializing. Sometimes when customers go to tap their card for payment, Chuckie nudges their hand away, as if to say, “Yea, you don’t have to do that.”

Q: Any funny or memorable moments with Chuckie you’d like to share?

Randi: One time, my daughter went to the bathroom and looked over, and Chuckie was in the trashcan staring at her. (see photo evidence below)

Jose: Angel, our neighbor, keeps all his cars very clean. He’s a bit type A about it. One day after Angel’s worker detailed his Lexus, I peeked out to take a look at the freshly washed car. I see Chuckie pumping his back paws and doing some rinsing of his own all over the front bumper. That gave me a good chuckle.

Q: What does Chuckie bring to the shop atmosphere?

Randi: Chuckie adds so much love and laughter to the shop. When people come with their kids Chuckie is the highlight. He truly is so warm and affectionate, even if you are not a cat person, you become a Chuckie person.

Jose: He reminds us that work is not too serious. Sometimes people come and bring their kids purely for the sake of visiting Chuckie. Chuckie’s presence gives the shop novelty and personality. Our customer’s daughter calls our store, “The Cat Store."

Q: Any advice for other shop owners thinking about adopting a store cat?

Randi: Shop cats are the perfect addition to any shop, There are so many at the shelters just waiting for a home. Cats are so easy to care for, and are fine being alone for a day or two as long as there is food and water and a litter box. They keep rodents and bugs away, and will keep you entertained and give you the best companionship you could ever want. Also, black cats rule!!
